Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) Organizes Workshop on Good Agricultural Practice in Kano

The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has organized a two – day workshop on Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) for tomatoes, pepper and onions for Farmers, Marketers and Exporters.

The workshop which took place on 1st and 2nd September, 2021 at No. 1 Bompai road Kano has called the attention of farmers, marketers of such products on how to improve more in producing and marketing within and outside Nigeria in a standard quality way.

In his welcome address the Director General and Chief Executive Standards organization of Nigeria (SON) Mallam Farouk Salim said “we are hopeful that at the end of the programme, quality practices to add value to the entire tomatoes and pepper value chain would have been learnt and our capacity to export these products would have been initiated”.

The Director General (SON) who was represented by Mrs. Chinyere Egwuomwu a director Standard in the organization stressed the point earlier that the role of the organization is to ensure that the products and services offered in Nigeria are able to meet the satisfaction of the consumer either in safety or value for money.

In the end, he appreciate the effort of Kano State government in its hospitality and support and also commended the resilience of farmers, Traders and other stakeholders in the value chain, who continue to play critical roles in achieving self – sufficiency from local production.
