Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, celebrated the outstanding achievements of Nigerian Junior Secondary School Students from Kwara, Katsina, and Benue States who clinched trophies in esteemed International Debate Competitions held in Indonesia, Singapore, and Dubai.
Dr. Sununu highlighted the impressive accomplishments of Nigerian Youth, stressing their significant role in enhancing national pride. He emphasized the critical need for a comprehensive Education that integrates knowledge, character, and skills. The Minister expressed regret for scheduling conflicts and recognized the invaluable support from Coaches, State governments, corporate entities, and Parents in nurturing these promising talents.
Commending the Students’ resilience, Dr. Sununu urged them to maintain their momentum and underscored the importance of revitalizing debate clubs to foster superior communication and critical thinking skills among Students. He extended congratulations to the champions and reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing Education under President Bola Tinubu’s comprehensive agenda.
Addressing the issue of Out-of-School children, Dr. Sununu urged the debate competition’s organizers to introduce topics aimed at tackling this challenge. He called on the champions to inspire others to return to School, emphasizing the role of skill acquisition in achieving success and making a positive impact.
During the ceremony in Abuja, Usman Mohammad, Chairman of the National Advisory Board of the President’s School Debate of Nigeria, presented trophies to Dr. Sununu and praised State Governors for their sponsorship of the Students. Elder Dare Oritu, National Coordinator and President of School Debate, echoed gratitude for sponsorships that motivate Students to excel.
Speaking on behalf of her peers, Miss Ene Aduba from UBE Girls Junior Secondary School in Benue state expressed gratitude to Almighty God, Federal and State governments, and all involved in the competition’s success. She advocated for parental awareness campaigns to encourage more children to return to School, emphasized the Ministry’s role in global talent showcasing, and highlighted the importance of state engagement in ensuring a safe learning environment.
The celebration is significant in recognizing Nigerian Students’ exceptional talents and emphasized Education ‘s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future.
