The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora has stated that the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration in the health sector has been under reported.
Dr. Mamora made this statement while commissioning a Modular Theatre Complex and Amenity Ward at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi Lagos (NOHIL) on Thursday, 1st April 2021. He revealed that in the last three weeks, he had visited the Federal Medical Centres (FMCs) in Jalingo, Katsina, Asaba, Ebute-Metta, Abeokuta and other Health Institutions to commission various projects which include: Isolation Wards; Molecular/Microbiology Laboratories; Radiology Complex; Infectious Diseases Treatment Centre; Oxygen Plant; Intensive Care Units (ICU); Emergency Pediatric Units just to mention a few.
These the Minister said, are testimonies of what is happening in the health sector in line with the mission of the Federal Government to build a health system that guarantees universal access to comprehensive, efficient, affordable, adequate and quality healthcare for Nigerians in spite of the challenges the country is faced with.
Dr. Mamora, while on a tour to inspect the facilities at the hospital, seized the opportunity to visit and speak with some of its patients. The Minister who was pleased with the positive feedback received, concerning services rendered by the hospital, commended the Institution for continuously improving on its existing structure and facilities despite the global economic meltdown exacerbated with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health Mr. Abdulaziz Mashi represented by his Senior Technical Assistance, Dr. Abubakar Isma’eel, disclosed that the commissioning of the projects is coming at an auspicious time when the world is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the need to modernize our health system especially the tertiary institutions.
According to him, the commissioned facilities will contribute towards the provision of quality healthcare delivery based on international best standards in surgical and in-patient care services, thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery in the hospital. The FMoH he said, is committed to providing quality care towards the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) across the country, consistent with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “The Ministry has prioritized the upgrading and strengthening of Federal Tertiary Hospitals for the provision of desirable services in the face of global health challenges.”
The commissioned Modular Theatre Complex was constructed and equipped in line with International best standards while the Amenity Ward was constructed and equipped with the state of the art equipment so as to curb medical tourism and provide premium care.
