In a spirited call for stronger collaboration, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun FCIPS, ACFE, has called on sister agencies to work together to “help Nigeria become the Dubai of Africa.” This passionate plea came during a courtesy visit by the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Barr. Victor Muruako, and his team to the BPP headquarters in Abuja.

While welcoming the FRC delegation, Dr. Adedokun highlighted the historical significance of both agencies, noting that they were established at a time when federal, state, and local governments were pursuing differing priorities. “History will never forget the pivotal role our institutions played in securing debt relief for Nigeria,” he said. “Now is the time to rekindle our shared responsibilities and recommit to national progress through partnership.”

Dr. Adedokun affirmed BPP’s commitment to collaboration, stating, “Together, we will make Nigeria better and truly position it as the Dubai of Africa.” He requested FRC to share its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) templates to align with BPP’s revised standards and committed to inviting FRC for joint M&E missions. These collaborative reports, he noted, would carry greater impact when presented with a united voice.

Dr. Adedokun also proposed convening a high-level forum involving executive heads of anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC and the Code of Conduct Bureau to deliberate on joint action, enhance collaboration, and reinforce their collective voice.

He introduced Mr. President’s “Nigeria First Policy,” which promotes community-based procurement to encourage local participation and stimulate grassroots economic growth. “This initiative will be driven electronically through a mobile App, and we look forward to partnering with FRC to make this a success,” he added

In his remarks, Barr. Victor Muruako expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing a seasoned technocrat, Dr. Adedokun, as the DG of BPP. “It is a well-deserved appointment, earned through hard work and dedication,” he stated.

He further emphasized the importance of collaboration in ensuring fiscal discipline, reducing the cost of governance, and ensuring value for money in public spending. Key areas of cooperation discussed include:

 Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two agencies
 Joint training to strengthen FRC’s procurement department
 Deployment of procurement officers to aid institutional continuity
 Joint monitoring and evaluation of approved projects
 Engagement in BPP’s ongoing reform agenda

The visit culminated in the formal handover of a proposed MOU by Barr. Victor to Dr. Adedokun, who assured the document would be reviewed and finalized during a follow-up visit.
