FIC REPORT (LAGOS STATE) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation. He is expected to return through Lagos and remain in the state for activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President is expected to be received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other senior government officials.
During his stay in Lagos, President Tinubu is expected to attend to official duties and participate in activities marking the Independence Anniversary. The programme includes an Independence Day Public Lecture on Wednesday, September 30, while the President’s nationwide broadcast to Nigerians is scheduled for Thursday, October 1.
The President is also expected to attend the premiere of a documentary on the late businessman and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, at the National Theatre in Lagos on Independence Day.
The 66th Independence Anniversary is being marked with the theme, “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity.” The Federal Government said the celebration will provide an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence and the country’s efforts towards economic stability, growth and shared prosperity.
President Tinubu’s decision to mark the anniversary in Lagos will also provide an opportunity for the Federal Government and Lagos State Government to work together in hosting the national event. He is expected to return to Abuja after the Independence celebrations and other official engagements in Lagos.
Nigeria will mark 66 years of independence on October 1, 2026, with activities taking place across the country as Nigerians reflect on the nation’s journey and look forward to the years ahead.
