The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope housing programme is expanding access to homes and improving living standards, with more than 10,000 housing units under construction across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Idris stated this in Abuja on Friday, at the 20th Anniversary Gala and Award Night of Abuja Property Development Company (APDC) Limited, where he highlighted the Federal Government’s investment in housing and mortgage financing as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s housing needs.

“Through the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, the administration has advanced housing projects across the country, with more than 10,000 housing units commenced across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory. These interventions show the importance of sustained investment, effective partnerships and innovative financing in making homeownership more accessible to Nigerians,” the Minister said.

The Minister, who previously served as Chairman of APDC’s Board of Directors, congratulated the company on its 20th anniversary and commended its management, staff and stakeholders for their contributions to its growth. He said property developers must maintain high standards, plan responsibly and ensure that their projects meet the needs of families and communities.

“Property development goes beyond putting up buildings. It involves creating spaces where families can live, businesses can grow, and communities can thrive. Well-planned developments contribute to the growth of cities, create employment and support economic activity,” Idris said.

At the event, APDC presented Idris with an award recognising his service as former Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. The plaque acknowledged his leadership during his two tenures, describing his stewardship as instrumental to the company’s development, structure and reputation.

The Minister expressed hope that APDC would build on its 20 years of experience and continue to contribute to Abuja’s development through quality housing and responsible property development.

In attendance were the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL), ably represented by Dr Abiodun Akambi; the Ag Managing Director, APDC, Mr Akeem Aderogba; the former Managing Director, APDC, Mallam Lawal Magaji; Chief Executives of APDC, Management and Staff of APDC, among other dignitaries.
