In a landmark meeting, The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, convened with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, KN Nanda, Pcc, MMIS, FSM. This gathering marked a significant advancement in enhancing collaboration between the tourism and immigration sectors, focused on boosting Nigeria’s tourism industry and optimizing processes for international visitors.

Central to the discussion was Nigeria’s newly implemented visa reforms, which have expanded visa categories from six to 79. This change has increased opportunities for international tourists and business travelers. The updated visa policy simplifies entry requirements for passport holders from African Union member states through a visa-on-arrival program. This initiative supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, aiming to enhance tourism while facilitating the entry of professionals and investors.

Both leaders also examined how technological advancements, such as the new e-Visa system, are improving visa processing. This system allows online applications and includes biometric tracking to enhance security and reduce border wait times. These innovations position Nigeria as a leading destination for tourism and a key hub for business and investment.

The new visa reforms, including five-year visas for highly skilled professionals, are expected to attract top talent across various sectors, from technology to medicine, contributing to economic growth. Additionally, easier access to Nigeria’s rich cultural and natural attractions is elevating the nation’s international profile.

With these strategies already in effect, the collaboration between tourism and immigration is reinforcing Nigeria’s global competitiveness and solidifying its role as a leader in tourism and economic development.
