Traditional Institutions Key to Peacebuilding – IPCR

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has described the traditional institutions as key in promoting peacebuilding in every society.

The Director General of the Institute Dr. Bakut T. Bakut made this known in Abuja when he received on official visit, His Royal Majesty, the Ona of Abaji, Alh. (Dr) Adamu Baba Yunusa.

Dr. Bakut said that the Institute was fully aware of the efforts of the traditional rulers in complementing the IPCR peacebuilding strategies in the FCT.

“I believe that traditional rulers are very important in peacebuilding process as well as the development of this country, we must work together to ensure that peace is sustained in the FCT in particular and the country in general” Dr. Bakut said.

Dr. Bakut noted that the Institute had created peacebuilding office in Gwagwalada and is also planning to create more peacebuilding offices in the Area Councils of the FCT.

Earlier, the Ona Abaji His Royal Majesty, Dr. Adamu Baba Yunusa, said that the rationale behind his visit was to solicit for IPCR support in promoting Peace in FCT and Nigeria in general.

In another development, the Director General Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution Dr. Bakut T. Bakut has reiterated his determination and commitment to sustain the good relationship between IPCR and UFUK Dialogue Foundation.

Dr. Bakut was speaking in Abuja when he received Mr Ahmet Omeroglu, President UFUK Dialogue Foundation who paid him official visit in his office.

Dr. Bakut said the Foundation is one of the resilient partners that have been working with the Institute in promoting peace through dialogue.

He said “we have been working together with UFUK Dialogue Foundation especially in the area of Love and Tolerance Conference and other peacebuilding activities”, he said.

Dr. Bakut appreciated UFUK Dialogue Foundation for their support to Nigerian Peacebuilding process.

Earlier, in his remarked, the UFUK Dialogue Foundation President, Mr Ahmet Omeroglu, said that UFUK is a non-governmental Organization that was founded in 2011 in Abuja to promote global peace and contribute to a peaceful coexistence that adherents of different culture, faith, tribes and race in the world.

He explained that the mandate of UFUK is to promote dialogue, mutual coexistence and establish a common platform for information and opinion exchange.
