The Federal Ministry of Transportation has pledged to support the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in addressing its staff transportation challenges by providing guidance on the acquisition of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses and including the Institute in upcoming government-supported distributions of tricycles.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Funso Adebiyi, FNSE, stated this when the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, led the management of the Institute on a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja.
Adebiyi expressed appreciation to the Administrator for the visit and commended his humility, leadership and support for the Ministry, particularly for granting the Ministry the use of NJI facilities for the forthcoming 19th National Council on Transportation (NCT), scheduled to hold from Monday, 31st August to Thursday, 3rd September 2026.
Reiterating the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable mobility, Adebiyi noted his previous involvement in CNG deployment initiatives and assured the NJI that the Ministry would provide technical guidance on the acquisition of CNG-powered buses. He also assured the Institute that it would be prioritised in future government-supported distributions of tricycles for internal movement.
He said the Ministry was committed to a fruitful partnership with the NJI, stressing that the collaboration was based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to national development.
According to him, “We are privileged to collaborate with you, sir. We will do everything within our control to ensure a successful collaboration with you.”
Explaining the Ministry’s evolving mandate, Adebiyi said that following the restructuring of the Federal Government, the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy now oversees agencies such as the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, while the Federal Ministry of Transportation focuses principally on rail development, alongside road transport regulation and management.
He added that key road transport sector stakeholders, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), remain integral to the Ministry and would participate actively in the forthcoming NCT.
The Permanent Secretary commended the management and staff of the National Judicial Institute for the support extended to the Ministry and expressed confidence that the forthcoming NCT would provide a valuable platform for stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting transportation development in Nigeria.
He also appreciated the Administrator and management of the NJI for their hospitality and cooperation, stressing that the Ministry looked forward to a stronger and mutually beneficial relationship with the Institute.
Speaking earlier, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the Ministry and working together towards the development of Nigeria.
Justice Adejumo requested the Ministry’s intervention in alleviating the transportation challenges faced by NJI staff through the provision of CNG-powered buses to transport staff residing outside the Institute, as well as tricycles to facilitate seamless movement within the premises.
He further assured the Ministry that the Institute would be willing to provide the necessary support whenever the need arises.
