FIC Report (Imo State) – Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have recorded a significant operational success in Imo State with the dismantling of a suspected criminal hideout linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The operation, conducted along the Ubaha–Orsu axis of Orsu Local Government Area, followed credible intelligence and formed part of ongoing efforts to restore security and stability across the South-East region.
During the mission, troops encountered resistance from armed elements but responded decisively, repelling the attack and forcing the assailants to retreat. This enabled security forces to secure the area and carry out a comprehensive search.
Subsequent clearance operations led to the discovery of shallow graves suspected to contain the remains of Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew, who were reportedly abducted and killed by criminal elements in May 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding. The graves were carefully excavated, and the suspected remains were recovered.
The recovered remains have been secured for detailed forensic examination, including DNA analysis, to confirm their identities.
Efforts are also ongoing to liaise with the families of the deceased to ensure proper identification and facilitate dignified burial arrangements.
The development highlights ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, to sustain operations against criminal elements and maintain public safety across the region.
