Waste Management: Abia Government Releases Report on Bids for Private Sector Participants


Abia State government has announced the end report of Invitation for Bids for Private Sector Participants (PSP) in Waste Management services in the State.

Announcing the report during a briefing at Government House Umuahia, the Chairman of the Bid Committee and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process, Dr Oluebube Chukwu said the end of Invitation for Bids is targeted at engaging relevant private sector participants in the provision of waste management services across the State.

Dr Chukwu noted that the Invitation for Bids were issued to receive tenders from individuals and competent organizations for the provision of adequate waste management in Umuahia and Aba with both towns delineated into zones for effective waste management.

According to him, the Committee received a total of 171 interested bidders out of which 67 was successfully processed having met the set eligibility criteria, shown capacity and capability to proffer and manage modern end-to-end waste management solutions and systems across the zones.Waste Management: Abia Government Releases Report on Bids for Private Sector Participants

He further disclosed that four companies for Aba and two each for Umuahia emerged as preferred bidders and first and second reserved bidders.

He noted that service benchmark for winning Bids in waste management are to be applied to the winning Bids whereby the reserved bids would take over in the event of any noticed irregularities.

Also speaking, the General Manger of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr Ogbonnia Okereke said having announced the winners, the next phase would be documentation which will involve communication of service level agreement between the State represented by ASEPA and the contractors that would be supervised by the Due Process Office.

Mr. Okereke who described the process as painstaking and thorough added that government intends to conclude the process as soon as possible.
