FIC REPORT (ABIA STATE) – Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s inclusive governance policy, stressing that his government makes no distinction between indigenes and non-indigenes or between federal and state projects.
According to Governor Otti, the benefits of government policies and development initiatives ultimately accrue to all people living in the state, regardless of their places of origin.
“We don’t discriminate between federal agencies and state agencies, neither do we discriminate between federal projects and state projects, because, at the end of the day, the beneficiaries are indigenes and those living in the state,” Governor Otti said.
“We also do not have non-indigenes and indigenes. The policy does not work here. Everybody who lives here is from here, and that is the way it should be,” he stated.
Governor Otti stated this when the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Binyerem Ukaire, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to him at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The Governor assured the delegation of his administration’s readiness to support federal institutions operating in Abia, expressing confidence that their request would be addressed, noting that his administration had previously supported several federal institutions in the state.
He subsequently directed the State Commissioner for Information to work with officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to identify suitable office accommodation for the Ministry in the state.
Governor Otti assured that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation would receive similar consideration, adding that the State Government would do its best to facilitate the Ministry’s operations and improve its effectiveness.
He thanked the delegation for recognising his administration’s achievements in infrastructure development and governance, describing the commendation as encouragement to sustain ongoing development efforts, and congratulated Dr. Ukaire on her recent appointment as Permanent Secretary.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Binyerem C. Ukaire, appealed to Governor Alex Otti to assist the Federal Information Centre (FIC), Abia State, in securing suitable office accommodation to enhance its operational efficiency.
Dr. Ukaire, who described herself as a proud daughter of Abia State, commended the Abia State Government for maintaining a cordial working relationship with the Centre, particularly through its participation in the Government House Press Crew, which has enabled the Centre to document and publicise government policies, programmes and achievements through the Ministry’s official platforms.
She applauded the Otti administration’s achievements in public-sector reforms, road construction, infrastructure renewal, environmental management, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare and public financial management.
She stressed that information remains a vital instrument for governance, public enlightenment and development, and called for stronger institutional cooperation between the Federal Ministry and the Abia State Government.
While acknowledging that providing accommodation for a federal office was not necessarily a statutory obligation of the state government, she expressed confidence in Governor Otti’s goodwill and commitment to intergovernmental cooperation.
Also speaking, the Head of the Federal Information Centre, Umuahia, Mrs. Gloria Abiakam, thanked the Governor for his continued support for federal establishments in the state and commended his inclusive approach to governance and achievements in critical sectors.
