Women Affairs Ministry to Partner UN Women on Production of BIOGAS

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has expressed its willingness to partner with the UN Women on low-cost Biogas household production for women, especially those living in the rural areas.

The Honourable Minister, Barrister (Mrs) Kennedy-Ohanenye made the disclosure during the presentation of the product by the UN Women in her Office in Abuja.

Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the partnership with the UN Women is imperative as the biogas technology will reduce health hazards, enhance clean cooking environment as well as reduce deforestation, among others.

She informed that the use of the product will not only reduce the cost, time, as well as the level of suffering women engage in to get firewood, kerosene or gas for cooking but will also help them channel their time and energy for more creative and profitable ventures, that will improve the livelihood of their families as well as slow down their aging process in the long run.

The Minister assured that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration is committed to ensuring healthy living for all Nigerians and as such, the Ministry is committed to the realization of this policy objective of government in line with its mandate.

Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye assured that the Ministry on its part will continue to solicit the support of its donor agencies and relevant stakeholders in order to make the product accessible and affordable to all.

Earlier, the UN Women Country Director, Ms. Beatrice Eyong stated that the biogas technology is not only environment friendly but will also reduce health challenges, particularly smoke related ailments.

She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Women Affiairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Management and Staff of the Ministry for their dogged determination towards the improvement of the living standards of women, children and the vulnerable in society in line with contemporary global realities.
