The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora has charged the Board and Management of the Federal Medical Centres, Owerri and Bida on the need to work together in the spirit of cooperation, collaboration, coordination, communication and mutual respect to enable for smooth running of their hospitals.

Dr. Mamora gave this charge whilst conveying the President’s approval for the renewal of appointment of Dr. Kingsley Achigbu, as Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Owerri, Imo State, for a second and final term of four (4) years with effect from 31st December 2021 and the appointment of Dr. Abubakar Usman as Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Bida, Niger State, for an initial term of four (4) years with effect from 14th September 2021.

The Minister of State, while congratulating the helmsmen of the hospitals on behalf of President Buhari enjoined them to consider their appointment as a call to service. He emphasized the need for the Board and Management to work in harmony, because progress cannot be achieved under an atmosphere of crisis and misunderstanding. He advised the Board not to attempt to do the job of the Management likewise the Management doing the job of the Board. ”To achieve unprecedented peace there must be collaboration, because there is no bird that flies with one wing. At the end of the day when there is crisis as the popular saying goes; when two elephants fight it is the grass that suffers, then the whole purpose of setting up the centre becomes defeated.”

Dr. Mamora further tasked the MDs to work in unity of purpose and cultivate a good working relationship with their State Government, host communities, Unions in the centre and especially the Commissioner for Health who is a statutory member of the board because they stand to gain more when there is cordiality. He urged them to work hard to ensure that their hospital continues to provide quality healthcare and justify the confidence repose in them.

The MDs, who expressed sincere appreciation to Mr. President and the Federal Ministry of Health for the privilege given to them to serve, pledged to justify the trust and confidence bestowed on them by working hard and abiding by the rules and regulations guiding their appointment.
