FIC Report (Abia State) – The Young Progressives Party”s(YPP) Candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal, Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Ogbundiogu has described the Media as partners in a democratic society as they play major roles in sustaining the peace and development of a nation.

Hon. Ogbundiogu spoke during an interaction with Newsmen in Umuahia lamented that there is no true freedom of the Press in the Nigerian society despite the passage of the Freedom of Information law and commended Journalists for sticking out their neck to ensure that the society is properly informed.

He also decried the dependence on petroleum by the nation which he said has hindered Nigeria’s development while Agriculture which was the major stay of the nation’s economy remain abandoned leading to food insufficiency.

The Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency hopeful called on the Media to begin an enlightenment campaign on the need to go back to Agriculture noting that Abia has hidden wealth which can be harnessed through agricultural produce of rice and cocoa as obtained in his constituency.

He said he would attract industrial development if elected in 2023 at Ikwuano which will open Abia to more developments.

He alleged that the South East is neglected by the Nigerian government which is worrisome and expressed readiness to help cry out on the floor of the House to attract more attention to the Southeast and commended the Press for helping Nigerians speak out when the need arises.

On Voter education, Ogbundiogu assured of his support for the Association in going to other parts of the state especially on PVC collection and adequate voter education.

On why he is contesting for the House of Representatives, Ogbundiogu noted that Abia’s backwardness and the need to change the narratives inspired him, adding that he joined the race to attract federal governments attention to the people of his constituency. According to him, Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency are seriously in pain and urgent need of government attention, while insisting that you can only fix the system if you are in the system and he can’t fix Nigeria from a distance.

Hon. Ogbundiogu uses the forum to affirm his partnership with the Media where and when necessary in the days ahead.
