66Th Independence Anniversary: Uzodimma Urges Nigerians To Renew Faith In Nigeria

FIC REPORT (IMO STATE) – Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has called on Nigerians to renew their faith in the country and remain committed to building a peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.

Governor Uzodimma made the call while delivering his Independence Day address at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The Governor in his address stated that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and that the responsibility of building a better nation extends beyond government to every sector of the society.

He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, youth organisations and other citizens to strengthen cooperation with security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.

Uzodimma equally urged Nigerians to reject hate, violence, intolerance and destructive division, while encouraging parents, teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders to instil in younger generations an understanding that Nigerian citizenship comes with both privileges and responsibilities.

He noted that the nation’s future could not be built by the government alone, but through the collective contributions of teachers, farmers, entrepreneurs, professionals, parents, artisans, civil servants, healthcare workers, business owners and other citizens whose daily efforts sustain and advance the country.

The Governor paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation, acknowledging their courage and commitment to protecting Nigeria.

As the country marks 66 years of independence, Uzodimma expressed confidence in the capacity of Nigerians to build, innovate and overcome the challenges confronting the nation. He maintained that the Nigeria of the people’s aspirations remains achievable through sustained patriotism, responsible citizenship and collective commitment to national development.

He prayed that the anniversary would renew Nigerians’ patriotism, strengthen national unity and inspire greater collective efforts towards peace, stability and prosperity.

The Independence Day celebration featured the inspection of the parade and the taking of the Independence Parade salute by Governor Uzodimma, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police. The ceremony also witnessed a colourful march-past by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, students and various voluntary organisations.
