Africa Public Service Day Celebration; Ministry of Petroleum Resources Recognizes, Rewards Outstanding Staff

In commemoration of this year’s African Public Service Day celebration, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources has acknowledged the efforts of some of her staff who were adjudged to have shown commitment to duty in the face of the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In a ceremony held at the amphitheater, NNPC Towers, Abuja, on Wednesday, 23rd June, 2021, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, mni, in his speech, stated that, the Public Service has remained a major catalyst in the evolution and growth of countries, Nigeria inclusive.

Speaking further, Nabasu said; “the theme of this year’s celebration; “Deploying technology to sustain and enhance service delivery in the face of this challenging covid-19 pandemic climate”, is not only apt but also critical as we are faced with new realities that confronts and challenges status quo with the option to either adjust or lag behind, evolve or be phased out”.

The Permanent Secretary recalled that, during the Ministerial Scorecard in 2020, the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector, under the leadership of the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva ranked amongst the best. This, according to the Permanent Secretary was because the Ministry has competent hands working in harmony to ensure that it delivers on its 9 Priority Mandates.

In his address the Director, Human Resources Management, Dr. Famous Eseduwo thanked the staff of the Ministry for their outstanding performance during the covid-19 pandemic, He expressed gratitude to all the officers who have been on essential duty, coming to work in spite of the order from the Federal Government directing public servants on certain grade levels to work from home.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of letters of commendation, plaques and gifts to deserving staff as well as the announcement of three nominees to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for the Federal Civil Service awards.

The Deputy Director, Staff Welfare and Training, Mrs. Funmi Otu-Bassey, in her vote of thanks address, thanked the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, mni, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan for the success of this year’s African Public Service Day Celebration.
