Mr Doro said, “our task in the ministry is twofold: to protect Nigerians who are vulnerable today; and to open pathways that make them resilient and economically independent tomorrow” Moving from palliative to partways, he said while palliative ensures that a family survives a crisis, pathways ensures that a family doesn’t need palliative again.

He said, the Household prosperity and economic social protection project (HOPE-SP) represents this new direction, moving our intentions from a predominantly relief- oriented approach towards sustainable pathways to recovery, empowerment and self-reliance. Also, he said, OHOPRS brings Humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction, economic inclusion and graduation under the one national operating model with the household, pointing out that a mother and her children are at the centre of how we intervene and how we measure success. Hence, he said, Nigeria is answering the call of SDGs1 in all it’s approaches to build a social protection system for all and to strengthen the resilience of the poor against shocks.

In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Olubunmi Olusanya said, the initiative of the ministry shows a lot of commitment, pointing out that, poverty cannot be eradicated by Government alone but requires stakeholders collaboration, he appreciated the contributions of all stakeholders and called for more, to enable Nigeria to succeed in poverty reduction.

Good will messages were read by some stakeholders, the European Union, the African Aids International, World Food Program, the National Assembly, federal ministry of Women Affairs, and Fidelity bank PLC amongst others, the representatives all pledged their commitment to reduce poverty for a safe and peaceful nation.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of some palliative to some vulnerable persons in the society.
