Permanent Secretary calls for better synergy among MDAs for implementation of the National Social Protection Policy

    Permanent secretary, Budget and Economic planning, Mr Nebeolisa Anako , Directors and newly inaugurated members of the Community of Practice (COP) for the implementation of the National Social Protection Policy .

    The purpose of the Community of Practice(CoP) is to enhance the implementation of the social protection programmes in Nigeria.

    The permanent Secretary, Budget and Economic planning, Mr. Nebeolisa Anako, stated this while  inaugurating  the Community of Practice (CoP), for the implementation of the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP) today, in Abuja.

    Speaking, Mr. Anako, said that (NSPP) was structured along  four pillars which comprised of  Social Assistance, Social care, Social Insurance,and Labour Market.

    He  noted  that some MDA’s, States and non state actors had been implementing programmes around those pillars in other to alleviate poverty. To  build on the achievement recorded at various levels, he advised  that there should be linkage and synergy across programmes and projects with more formal interaction platforms among MDA’s that could bring together various skills and specialties.

    The permanent Secretary said that  members of the CoP at the Federal level were  drawn from key Social Protection stakeholders from relevant MDA’s, World Bank, other development partners and donor agencies.

    He said the terms of reference for the CoP were to : leverage on the implementation plan of the NSPP as a guide for the implementation of Social Protection programmes in the various MDA’s; Strengthen existing linkages and build synergy at both national and sub-national levels of government in implementing the pillars of Social Protection, among others.

    In a welcome statement, the Director of Social Development in the Ministry, Dr. Sanjo Faniran, commended members  of the Community for their commitment and urged  them to see  the policy as  an instrument for moving the Social Protection programmes in the country to greater heights.

    Also speaking, the World Bank representative, Dr. Lyie Ersado, urged the the Ministry to share relevant documents on the policy with other members of the Community. This, he said would  enable them acquaint themselves before the orientation meeting.
