NEMA and SEMA on Notice: Olubadan Demands Urgent Support for Collapse Victims

FIC Report (Oyo State) – The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to those affected by the building collapse that occurred on Thursday, October 31, 2024 in the Jegede area of Ibadan.

In a statement released on Tuesday 5th November, by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, the Olubadan expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. Reports indicate that approximately 10 individuals lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in this tragic incident.

Describing the collapse as both worrisome and unfortunate, Oba Olakulehin called on the state government and relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event. He expressed deep concern for the victims and emphasized the importance of accountability in building safety.

“I urge regulatory agencies and professionals involved in construction and planning to closely examine this incident and enhance measures to prevent future occurrences,” the monarch stated. He highlighted the need for strict adherence to building regulations and the use of appropriate materials in all construction projects.

Furthermore, the Olubadan reiterated his call for NEMA, SEMA, and other relevant stakeholders to act swiftly in providing support to the victims and their families. He also appealed to professionals in the construction field to offer necessary assistance to those still undergoing treatment.

“This incident must be investigated thoroughly, and steps must be taken to ensure that such tragedies do not happen again in Ibadanland,” he added.
