The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) recently in Abuja renewed its commitment to improving the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by meeting with SUNTECH, a leading provider of prosthetics and orthotics in Nigeria. This partnership is set to boost local production and accessibility of vital assistive devices, enhancing quality of life and independence for thousands of Nigerians with disabilities.

Following the meeting, Chief Gufwan embarked on a tour of SUNTECH’s fabrication center, a facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology to produce prosthetic and orthotic solutions. This center is designed to support amputees and individuals born with deformities, helping them regain mobility and self-sufficiency.

Speaking at the event, Chief Gufwan praised the innovation at SUNTECH, expressing optimism about the positive impact the partnership will have on PWDs in Nigeria. “This collaboration represents a milestone for our nation,” said Chief Gufwan.

“Nigerians are extraordinary people with immense potential to compete globally. We must seize this opportunity to expand local production of these devices, creating accessible solutions for those who need them most.”

The Executive Secretary further acknowledged SUNTECH’s efforts in restoring hope for accident survivors and those born with physical disabilities. He noted that the partnership underscores Nigeria’s commitment to building a more inclusive society.

During his facility tour, Chief Gufwan interacted with several patients who shared positive experiences about the quality of care and support they have received at SUNTECH.

Reflecting on NCPWD’s broader mission, Chief Gufwan reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to celebrating Nigeria’s “living legends” and veterans with disabilities who have contributed significantly to the nation’s progress. He emphasized that the NCPWD remains committed to empowering PWDs and ensuring they receive the respect and opportunities they deserve.

Prince Sunny Okachukwu, CEO of SUNTECH, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, describing Chief Gufwan as a compassionate leader who has consistently demonstrated kindness and dedication to uplifting PWDs.

“Chief Gufwan is a true hero, tirelessly working at the grassroots level to improve lives through Project Beautiful Gate,” said Okachukwu.

“His impact is felt by many, and we are honored to work alongside the NCPWD to deepen our reach and support for the disability community in Nigeria.”

With this renewed partnership, the NCPWD and SUNTECH are poised to significantly expand assistive technology availability in Nigeria, addressing a critical need for those affected by physical disabilities. Both organizations are committed to making locally-produced prosthetics and orthotics accessible and affordable, giving Nigerians with disabilities the tools they need to lead fulfilling lives.
