
The United Nations on Women Empowerment and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) is collaborating to strengthen the on-going UN reforms and policy on Affirmative Procurement for Women Empowerment to improve women participation in governance.
The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, while welcoming the UN Women Empowerment team in his office, led by Mrs. Beatrice Enyong, the United Nations Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, emphasized on the Bureau’s support to achieving the push for Affirmative Procurement for the UN Women Empowerment Goal.
Dr. Adedokun said that, BPP as a member of the Steering Committee on Women Empowerment and Women participation in Public Governance has been pushing for the team to come up with Affirmative Procurement and to harmonize policies.
The DG further reassures the UN Women Empowerment team that, BPP as an entity, has the legal instrument to support and work with the UN team to achieve the National Policy and Guidelines on Women Economic Empowerment.
In her remark, the head of the delegation, UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mrs. Beatrice Enyong, expressed gratitude for the on-going support the UN Women Empowerment has received from BPP and reaffirms their collaboration with the Bureau to achieving the objectives.

Mrs. Beatrice highlighted some of the achievements obtained on Affirmative procurement such as giving women 30% engagement of public contracts; giving women opportunity to be more proactive in entrepreneurship, with the capacity to generate more funds and decent jobs.
She further seeks more support from the Bureau to obtain an official draft of National Policy and Guidelines on Women Economic Empowerment that will enable them to achieve the mandates given by the member states to support government in promoting the implementation of the normative work which determines international standard of Gender Equality. Adding that, through its coordination and operations, they would support government programs with both civil society and private sectors.
The DG pledged the management support to obtain a technical assistance for the development of the National Policy and Guidelines on Affirmative Procurement that will enable positive growth in women empowerment in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Renewed Hope Agenda.
