FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – The Nasarawa State Government has distributed instructional materials to over 400 Public Secondary Schools as well as private schools in its bid to enhance the quality of education in the state.
Speaking at the distribution exercise on Thursday in Lafia, Mr John Mamman, Commissioner for Education said it was part of the state government’s efforts to provide a conducive learning environment for students.
He said that education is the topmost priority of the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led administration, which is why it continues to receive the highest allocation in the budget.
“The governor is committed to providing quality education to citizens by creating an enabling environment for the training of the younger generation.
“The distribution of instructional materials is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
“The state government will continue to prioritise education in its development agenda due to its crucial role in the future of the state,” he added.
The commissioner added that they included private schools in the distribution for the first time because of their contributions to the educational development of the state.
Mamman used the occasion and warned that anyone caught diverting the materials would face the full wrath of the law.
On his part, Uthman Isa-Agwai, Director of Basic Education in the ministry, emphasised that teaching and learning cannot strive without adequate instructional materials.
He appreciated the governor for making it a priority to ensure that schools do not lack instructional materials and urged principals to make judicious use of the items.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ogah Omaku-Ogiri, Nasarawa State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), appreciated the state government for the gesture.
He said that this was the first time the government was carrying private schools along in the distribution of instructional materials and expressed optimism that it would help them greatly.
Some of the materials include textbooks, workbooks, notebooks, pens and pencils, markers, colored pencils, chalk and chalkboards, educational posters, charts and diagrams, maps and globes, among others.
