"It’s Women O’Clock in Nigeria" — Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim Calls for Action at Post-CSW69 National Debrief Closing

At the grand finale of Nigeria’s Post-CSW69 National Debrief, Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, delivered a powerful and unifying address, calling for swift and measurable actions to turn global commitments into tangible community-level progress for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Held at the Frasier Suite in Abuja, the two-day debrief brought together a robust cross-section of government officials, civil society actors, private sector partners, and development stakeholders to evaluate Nigeria’s landmark participation at the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York.

The Minister lauded the unprecedented representation of over 120 Nigerian delegates who actively contributed to more than 30 strategic sessions and side events from March 10–21, 2025. “We demonstrated that Nigeria is not just participating in the global gender equality agenda, but also shaping it,” she affirmed.

Key highlights from her speech included:

Recognition of Nigeria’s inclusive delegation model as a global best practice;

Advancement of regional gender coordination under ECOWAS and Commonwealth platforms;

Profiling of subnational innovations as scalable GEWE frameworks;

Reaffirmation of Nigeria’s leadership across international gender platforms including CEDAW and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the outcomes of the debrief, notably the drafting of a National Communique of Strategic Action. This communique, to be presented to the Federal Government, outlines strategic national priorities such as:

Institutionalizing gender-responsive budgeting and GEWE indicators across MDAs;

Scaling women’s access to clean energy, finance, STEM, and leadership spaces;

Implementing digital inclusion frameworks with protections against online gender-based violence;

Expanding Nigeria Women’s Day into a global advocacy platform.

“Our 2024–2027 Strategic Action Plan includes ambitious but achievable goals — from empowering 10 million women to strengthening institutional capacities at all levels,” she declared.

The Minister closed her address with a stirring call to action: “It is Women O’Clock in Nigeria. Let us keep the clock ticking forward, with integrity, urgency, and unity of purpose.”

The Ministry of Women Affairs remains committed to ensuring that the momentum from CSW69 is sustained and translated into lasting impact for Nigerian women, girls, and communities nationwide.
