highlighted NTAC as one of Nigeria’s strongest instruments of soft-power diplomacy
The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) today held a formal pre-deployment briefing for volunteers scheduled to depart for Seychelles and The Gambia under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme. The event, held at the Corps Headquarters in Abuja, marks another significant step in Nigeria’s commitment to advancing soft-power diplomacy and strengthening international cooperation with sister nations.
The Director-General, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, delivering his speech emphasized Nigeria’s continued leadership in fostering South-South cooperation. He acknowledged the unwavering support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose 4D Foreign Policy has strengthened the operations and global visibility of NTAC.
The DG noted that since the beginning of the present administration, the Corps has recorded its highest levels of deployment activities, with testimonies of impact from partner nations. He highlighted that NTAC remains one of Nigeria’s strongest instruments of soft-power diplomacy, having deployed over 10,000 volunteers to more than 40 countries in the last 38 years.
Buba reminded the volunteers that they are going out as ambassadors of Nigeria and must therefore leave behind their weaknesses and carry forward their strengths. He assured them that the Nigerian government—through NTAC and the respective embassies—will fully support their welfare throughout their service period. He encouraged them to serve humanity wholeheartedly, expressing confidence that their contribution would bring pride to the nation.
In his welcome address, the Director of Programmes, Amb. Zakari Usman, congratulated the eight outgoing volunteers—five heading to The Gambia and three to Seychelles. He urged them to uphold the reputation of Nigeria and to serve with dignity, professionalism, and integrity, noting that their conduct would reflect not only on themselves but on the entire nation.
Speaking on behalf of the volunteers, the Team Leader, Dr. M. M. Suleiman, expressed gratitude to the President, the DG of NTAC, and the entire management for the opportunity to serve. He noted that thousands of Nigerians aspire to such opportunities and thanked the Corps for the trust placed in them. He pledged that the volunteers would uphold the image of the nation, honor their agreements, and represent Nigeria with excellence.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of deployment materials and group photograph, symbolizing NTAC’s pride as another cohort of volunteers embarks on their mission of service, solidarity, and international collaboration.
