Polio Drive: SOSG Monitors Vaccination In 8 LGAs Ahead Of March Rollout

FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto State Government, in partnership with UNICEF, has organised a Direct Observation of Polio Vaccination (DOPV) as part of the pre-campaign activities ahead of the March polio immunisation rollout.

The initiative aims to strengthen supervision, assess vaccination team performance, and ensure adherence standard immunisation protocols.

The Government has also reaffirmed its commitment to ending the circulation of vaccine-derive poliovirous Type 2 (CVDPV2) by 2026, with strategies including intensified vaccination campaigns, disease surveillance, and community engagement.

The statewide house-to-house polio immunisation is scheduled to commence on Saturday, 7th March, 2026, with vaccination teams expected to move across communities to ensure that every eligible child is reached. The State Government has invested in equipment like freezers, generators and motorcycles to support vaccine storage and delivery.

Parents and caregivers across the state have been urged to make all children under the age of five available for vaccination when the immunisation visit their homes.

The effort is part of Nigeria’s ongoing push to sustain its polio-status, achieved in 2020.
