Water Scarcity: Ebonyi NASS Member Inaugurates Rural Solar-Powered Water Schemes

FIC Report (Ebonyi State) – The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has inaugurated solar-powered rural water supply schemes in communities within Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State to address persistent water scarcity in the area.

The project, which consists of solar-powered motorised boreholes, was commissioned at Ndiagu Azu Oha-Nkwu in Ndufu Alike community. It is aimed at improving access to clean and potable water for rural residents.

Addressing a jubilant crowd at the event, Hon. Ogah stated that the intervention forms part of his ongoing efforts to tackle water scarcity and improve living standards in underserved communities.

He emphasised that access to potable water is critical to public health and socio-economic development.

The lawmaker noted that the adoption of solar-powered technology ensures sustainability and helps to reduce the operational challenges commonly associated with conventional water systems.

He further explained that the project aligns with the development priorities of the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, particularly in expanding basic infrastructure in rural areas.

Hon. Ogah urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance to guarantee their longevity and continued service.

The project was facilitated in collaboration with local authorities, who described the initiative as a timely intervention that will significantly ease the burden of accessing water in the affected communities.
