Benue Police Reaffirm Crackdown on Banditry, Warn Against Misinformation and Cattle Rustling

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating banditry and other violent crimes across the state, while cautioning the public against the spread of misinformation and involvement in criminal activities.

In a press release issued by PPRO of Benue State Command DSP Udeme Edet on Wednesday 15 April 2026.the Command acknowledged ongoing security challenges in parts of the state, particularly in Apa, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Gwer East, and Guma Local Government Areas. It noted that while the incidents remain a concern, they have prompted a review and strengthening of operational strategies aimed at restoring normalcy.

The Command commended its officers for their dedication and sacrifices in the line of duty, stating that personnel have remained steadfast in ongoing operations to improve security.

According to the statement, tactical teams have been deployed to vulnerable areas, including hinterlands, with targeted clearance operations carried out to dislodge criminal elements. These efforts, it said, have resulted in the disruption of criminal activities, recovery of arms, and an increased security presence in affected communities.

The Police also raised concerns over the circulation of misleading and unverified information, urging residents to rely on official sources, warning that misinformation could undermine ongoing security efforts.
Additionally, the Command issued a strong warning to individuals involved in cattle rustling, as well as those who aid or benefit from stolen livestock.

It stressed that such activities contribute to cycles of violence and reprisal attacks.
“Anyone found to be directly or indirectly involved in cattle rustling or handling its proceeds will be treated as a collaborator in banditry and prosecuted accordingly,” the statement warned.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, assured residents of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property, adding that all offenders would be brought to justice.

Residents were urged to support security agencies by providing credible information and to report emergencies through designated police channels.
