FIC Report (Edo State) – In a somber development that has rocked the media community in Edo State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the untimely passing of Mr. Kingsley Uchegbu, a distinguished Journalist and trusted Government House Correspondent for ITV/Radio. The news was confirmed on the evening of Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, triggering an outpouring of grief, disbelief, and tributes from Colleagues, Friends, and Members of the Press Fraternity.
The Edo State NUJ expressed its profound sorrow in a heartfelt Statement, describing the loss as “monumental” not only to the Station and the broader Journalism Profession but also to the Union Family. In a message to the management of ITV/Radio in Benin City, the Union conveyed their shock and deep sadness, acknowledging the void his departure leaves behind.
Colleagues and Media Peers fondly remember Kingsley Uchegbu as more than just a reporter; he was a familiar and approachable figure at Government briefings. His dedication to diligent Journalism was matched by his genuine friendliness and unwavering commitment to duty, qualities that earned him respect across Newsrooms and within the Union.
The Union’s Statement, jointly signed by NUJ Edo State Council Chairman, Comrade Dr. Festus Alenkhe and Secretary, Comrade Andy Egbon, highlighted Uchegbu’s active engagement in Union activities, emphasizing his role as a visible advocate for Journalists in Edo State. His participation in press Conferences, Union meetings, and Community outreach endeared him to peers and underscored his passion for the Profession.
Expressing their grief, the NUJ described Kingsley’s death as a “devastating loss” that leaves a void impossible to fill. “His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and worked with him,” the statement read. The union also extended heartfelt condolences to ITV/Radio management, his family, friends, and loved ones, asking for divine guidance and strength during this difficult time.
