FIC Report (Lagos State) – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his third anniversary in office, describing the President’s leadership as“courageous”and marked by “steady resolve” in the face of Nigeria’s complex challenges.
In a statement posted to his official Facebook page on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu said he was joining “millions of Nigerians” to mark the President’s milestone, which comes as the administration grapples with economic reforms, security concerns, and ongoing ceasefire negotiations in the Middle East.
“Mr. President, your courage and unwavering belief in the promise of Nigeria continue to inspire many of us who have had the privilege of learning from your leadership over the years,” the Governor wrote.
Positioning himself as both “benefactor and partner in progress,” Sanwo-Olu praised what he called the President’s “vision, discipline, and sense of duty” in governance.
The Governor acknowledged the weight of leading Africa’s most populous nation. “Leading a nation as vast and complex as ours is no small task and the decisions required are rarely easy,” he noted, before adding that Tinubu “continues to face these challenges head-on with steady resolve.”
The tribute comes amid sustained public debate over the administration’s economic policies, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms introduced in Tinubu’s first year. While critics have pointed to inflation and cost-of-living pressures, allies like Sanwo-Olu have consistently defended the President’s approach as necessary for long-term stability.
Sanwo-Olu, who served as Commissioner under Tinubu when the President was Lagos State Governor from 1999 to 2007, has often credited his political mentor for shaping his own style of governance. Thursday’s message reinforced that alliance.
“As your benefactor and partner in progress, I remain proud of the vision, discipline, and sense of duty you bring to governance,” Sanwo-Olu stated, framing their relationship as one of both personal loyalty and institutional cooperation.
The Governor concluded his message with a pledge of solidarity: “We stand with you, Mr. President, as we continue working to build the future our people deserve.”
The statement was issued on May 29, 2026, exactly three years after Tinubu took the oath of office on May 29, 2023. President Tinubu, GCFR, is the 16th President of Nigeria.
Political analysts say Sanwo-Olu’s remarks signal continued alignment between Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, and the Federal Government at a time when intergovernmental collaboration is critical for infrastructure delivery and revenue generation.
