FIC Report (Ogun State) – The Federal Government, through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has distributed teaching and learning materials as well as sports equipment to vulnerable learners in public primary schools across Ogun State.

The intervention, funded under the Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) Intervention Programme, was formally flagged off Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta. Officials said the gesture underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving educational access, equity, and learning outcomes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

SUBEB Chairman, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, described the initiative as a strategic investment by the Federal Government in the future of Nigerian children, particularly those being reintegrated into the formal school system.

He noted that the instructional materials would enhance classroom delivery, support teachers, and improve learning outcomes, while the sports equipment would promote physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and healthy competition among pupils.

“These materials, provided through the Federal Government/UBE Intervention Funds, will equip our teachers, enrich classroom experiences, stimulate learners’ interest and further strengthen the quality of teaching and learning across our schools,” Ifede said.

Representing UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, the Southwest Zonal Director, Mrs. Okei Beatrice, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children and ensuring inclusive access to basic education nationwide.

She said similar UBEC interventions were being implemented across the country through the distribution of school bags, sandals, sports equipment, and writing materials to increase enrolment, improve retention and create a more conducive learning environment.

“The intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which recognises education as a critical driver of national development, economic growth and social transformation,” she added.

SUBEB Permanent Member I, Barr. Femi Odufowokan, commended the Federal Government and UBEC for sustained support to basic education, noting that Ogun State had recorded significant progress through collaborative interventions and strategic investments.

In separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Mariam Oloko, alongside education stakeholders and union leaders, lauded the Federal Government’s intervention and called for sustained partnership to consolidate gains in the basic education sub-sector.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Rasheed Oluwadamilare of the School for Children with Special Needs, Ilaro, expressed appreciation to the Federal and Ogun State governments for the support, assuring that the materials would be used effectively to advance learning and academic excellence.
