FIC Report (Ebonyi State) – The Ebonyi State Police Command has announced plans to commence the impoundment of vehicles found plying the roads without valid registration number plates or with plate numbers that are concealed, covered, defaced, or tampered with.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the Command stated that owners of such vehicles would be subjected to appropriate legal sanctions in accordance with existing laws.

Ukandu explained that the directive followed a recent meeting between the Inspector-General of Police and Strategic Managers of the Force.

He noted that the measure is aimed at curbing the growing trend of vehicles being driven without registration numbers or with plate numbers deliberately concealed, covered, defaced, or altered.

The Command therefore advises all vehicle owners and motorists in Ebonyi State to obtain valid registration plate numbers through the appropriate authorities and ensure that the inscriptions on such plate numbers remain clearly visible at all times,” the statement read.

According to the PPRO, the enforcement exercise is designed to strengthen the Command’s crime-fighting efforts, enhance the identification and tracking of vehicles, and improve the overall security of the state

He urged motorists to cooperate with police officers carrying out the exercise, adding that personnel involved have been directed to conduct themselves professionally, courteously, and with due regard for the rights of members of the public.

The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the state to immediately commence strict enforcement of the directive.
