FIC Report (Imo State) – The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has witnessed a significant transition in its leadership following the formal handover of the affairs of the institution by its 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti, to her successor, Professor I.N.S. Dozie.

The handover ceremony, held at the University’s Council Chambers in Owerri, marked the successful completion of Professor Oti’s five-year tenure, which was widely acknowledged for advancing the institution’s academic, infrastructural and administrative development.

Presenting a comprehensive account of her administration, Professor Oti reflected on the University’s achievements during her tenure, highlighting notable progress in academic excellence, research and innovation, infrastructure development, digital transformation, staff welfare, institutional stability and strategic partnerships.

She noted that her administration implemented far-reaching reforms that enhanced the University’s national and international profile, strengthened academic programmes, expanded students’ access to quality education and improved the overall learning environment.

Professor Oti expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Governing Council, staff, students, alumni and development partners for their support throughout her tenure. She also congratulated Professor Dozie on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to consolidate on the gains already recorded and further advance the University’s mandate as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of technology.

In his acceptance remarks, the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor I.N.S. Dozie, commended Professor Oti for her exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to the growth and development of FUTO.

He pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor through policies and programmes that will strengthen academic excellence, research, innovation, technological advancement and institutional competitiveness.

Professor Dozie further called on staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders to support the new administration in its collective effort to position FUTO for greater accomplishments in line with the Federal Government’s vision for the advancement of science, technology and innovation-driven education.

Until his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, Professor Dozie had served the University in several capacities, including Head of Department, Dean, Director and Member of the Governing Council. He also served as Vice-Chancellor of K.O. Mbadiwe University, Ideato, Imo State.

The transition marks a new chapter in the history of FUTO as the institution continues to play a pivotal role in producing highly skilled manpower, promoting research and innovation, and contributing to Nigeria’s technological and socio-economic development.
