FIC Report (Kwara State) – Despite inherited public revenue challenges, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated strong commitment to public service expansion, job retention, and the prompt payment of salaries and pensions under the Renewed Hope Reform Agenda. Comrade Issa Aremu, Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, stated this during the Institute’s 2026 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise held in Ilorin.

Aremu noted that unlike previous reforms that resulted in job losses and retrenchments, the current administration has preserved existing jobs while creating new employment opportunities. According to him, public service employment has grown significantly since 2023 through the establishment of agencies and development institutions, providing thousands of jobs for Nigerians.

The Director-General disclosed that the 2026 promotion exercise, which elevated 45 senior staff members, was the fifth consecutive promotion cycle conducted since his appointment in 2021. He said the exercise reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to decent work and staff welfare, adding that MINILS has consistently prioritized career progression and merit-based advancement despite institutional challenges.

Aremu reaffirmed that MINILS remains a development training institution under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, operating in line with public service rules and extant laws. He called for increased funding and staffing to enable the Institute to expand its labour education programmes and reach more workers across the formal and informal sectors.

Earlier, the Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Danjuma Lawn, described the promotion exercise as a deliberate effort to reward deserving employees. He assured participants that the process would be conducted with transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to public service regulations.

The exercise was witnessed by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, further underscoring its credibility.
