FIC Report (Edo State) – The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. (Mrs.) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, on Wednesday 15th, 2026 paid a Courtesy visit to the Palace of the Iyase of Udo Dukedom as part of preparations for the hospital’s three-day free medical outreach scheduled for August 11 to August 13, 2026, at the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC), Udo.
Represented by the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), Clinical Services, Dr. Philip Osho, the CMD expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the delegation and said the visit was aimed at seeking the blessings, support and collaboration of the traditional institution ahead of the outreach.
According to her, the initiative underscores UBTH’s commitment to extending quality healthcare services beyond the hospital to underserved communities through preventive care, early diagnosis, treatment and health promotion.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu said a Multidisciplinary team of Health Care Professionals would provide free Medical Consultations, Screening for Hypertension, Diabetes, Eye Diseases and other Common Health conditions, as well as Dental Care. The outreach will also feature health education, counselling, provision of essential medications where necessary and referrals for patients requiring specialist care at UBTH.
She noted that the programme is designed to improve the health and wellbeing of residents of Udo and neighbouring communities by providing accessible, compassionate and quality Healthcare Services.
“This Outreach aligns with our vision to promote equitable health care through Community engagement, preventive measures, earlier diagnosis, treatment, and Health Education.”
The CMD appealed to the Iyase of Udo to mobilise Community Leaders, Youth and Women Groups, Religious Organisations and other Stakeholders to ensure widespread participation in the outreach.
Responding, the Iyase of Udo Dukedom, His Highness Chief Patrick Igbinidu, commended the UBTH management for the initiative, describing the planned intervention as a significant milestone for the Community.
He said the hospital’s support for the Comprehensive Health Centre signals a new phase of development for Udo, expressing optimism that the free Medical Outreach would bring lasting benefits to residents and improve access to Health Care Services.
