FIC REPORT (KADUNA STATE) – The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Her Excellency Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, represented the Governor, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, CON, as the Special Guest of Honour at a Town Hall Meeting on Sensitisation Against Drug Abuse and Domestic Violence.
The meeting, held at Syde Resort, Malali, Kaduna, brought together the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, members of the House of Representatives, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Local Government Chairmen, and other senior government officials.
The Town Hall Meeting was organised by the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), as part of efforts to raise public awareness and mobilise communities against the growing challenges of drug abuse and domestic violence.
The meeting provided an important platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the social, health, security and developmental consequences of drug abuse, particularly among young people, as well as the devastating effects of domestic violence on individuals, families and communities.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor emphasised the commitment of the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani to promoting a safe, peaceful and healthy society where citizens, particularly women, children and young people, can live with dignity and security.
She noted that tackling drug abuse and domestic violence requires a collective and coordinated approach involving government institutions, traditional and religious leaders, parents, schools, security agencies, civil society organisations, community leaders and the general public.
Dr. Balarabe further stressed the importance of prevention, early intervention, public enlightenment, rehabilitation and effective enforcement of relevant laws in addressing the root causes and consequences of drug abuse and violence within families and communities.
The Deputy Governor commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the National Orientation Agency for organising the Town Hall Meeting, describing the initiative as timely and relevant to the collective effort to protect vulnerable members of society and strengthen families.
She called on parents and guardians to pay greater attention to the wellbeing, behaviour and associations of their children, while urging young people to resist peer pressure and avoid substances and activities capable of destroying their future.
She also encouraged victims and survivors of domestic violence to seek help and report cases to the appropriate authorities, stressing that violence within the home should not be tolerated or treated as a private matter when lives, safety and human dignity are at risk.
The Town Hall Meeting reaffirmed the importance of continuous public sensitisation and community engagement in building a society that rejects drug abuse, violence and other harmful social behaviours.
The Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, CON, remains committed to strengthening partnerships with relevant Federal Government institutions, the National Orientation Agency, civil society organisations and other stakeholders towards promoting peace, security, responsible citizenship and the wellbeing of the people of Kaduna State.
The event ended with a renewed call for all stakeholders to work together in creating a safer and more responsible society, free from the destructive effects of drug abuse and domestic violence.
