INEC Conducts Peaceful Governorship Election Across 30 LGAs Of Osun State

FIC Report (Osun State) – Osun State 2026 governorship election today Saturday, August 15, 2026, registered voters across the 30 local government areas to elect the next leader to pilot the state for the next four years.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, deployed personnel and materials to 332 wards having 3763 Polling units.
According to the electoral Acts both the accreditation and voting took place.

Simultaneously, voting commenced as early as 8:30 am in many polling units in Osogbo,Ede,Olorunda,Olaoluwa etc as soon as INEC officials arrived on time with ballot papers, BVAS machines, and other sensitive materials.

Voters trooped out very early to exercise their franchise rights and they conducted themselves peacefully by standing on the queue.
People With Disabilities (PWDs) we’re not left out as many were in some polling units very early and priorities were given to them to cast their votes.
Security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, DSS, and military personnel were strategically deployed to maintain law and order. At least four police men were seen in each unit to maintain law and to protect both the INEC officers and the people.
There was eruption of violence,vote buying and protests in some areas of the state during the election.

Election Observers and the Media reported that the election was peaceful orderly and that people came out with all boldness to cast their votes.

The election featured 15 political parties, but the major contest was between the Accord (A) All Progressives Congress, (APC), and Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).

Some Voters interviewed by our crew, described the election as peaceful and smooth.

For instance, a retired teacher, Mr Adedolapo expressed joy for the smoothness of the election as against agitation that it might not be violence free.” I don’t expect the huge turn I see today because of the negative things that has been happening in the state even before today”, he said.

In the same vein,an elderly woman,Mrs Kosenatu commended INEC for the timely arrival of officials and the transparency of BVAS accreditation. She therefore advised that the government should see to the proper functioning of BVAS as against the general election in 2027.

In some polling units, election ended at 2:30 pm while continued in some that have people on the queue.

The 2026 Osun governorship election stands as one of the most significant as this is the Litmus test for INEC ahead 2027 general election.

The Osun state election can generally be rated as been free,fair, smooth and peaceful.
