FIC REPORT (ABIA STATE) – The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a seven-day capacity-building training programme for personnel of the Abia State Homeland Security Agency and the State Vigilante Services.
The training, which is aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of personnel and improving security collaboration in the state, was officially flagged off on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the NSCDC Command Headquarters Annex in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking during the ceremony, the State Commandant of the Corps, CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, FCIA, KSM, JP, stressed the importance of continuous training and retraining in enhancing the productivity and effectiveness of security personnel.
Odimba described the Abia State Homeland Security Agency as a strategic component of the state’s security architecture, noting that its personnel, like NSCDC operatives, live among the people and are therefore well positioned to contribute to intelligence gathering, surveillance and community-based security.
The NSCDC Commandant commended the state governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for what he described as his administration’s unwavering commitment to developing the capacity of security personnel in Abia State.
He said the government’s investment in the security sector was deliberate and already yielding positive results, stressing that the peaceful environment in the state was necessary for economic growth and development.
Odimba also commended the resource persons and drill officers participating in the training for their professionalism and commitment, urging them to sustain the standard throughout the programme.
Earlier, the Head of the NSCDC Training Department, DCC Patrick Ayetan, read out the camp rules to the participants and urged them to comply strictly with the regulations.
Ayetan maintained that discipline remained fundamental to effective learning and professional conduct, stressing the importance of adhering to the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Also speaking, the Commander of the State Security Outfit, Mr Nzenwa Stanley Major, appreciated Governor Otti for his support for the development of the state’s security architecture, particularly the approval of the training programme.
Major commended the NSCDC for its efforts to strengthen the capacity of the emerging security outfit through continuous training and retraining.
He pledged continued collaboration with the Corps in areas including intelligence gathering, information sharing and the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.
He urged the participants to take full advantage of the training to improve their professional knowledge, skills and operational effectiveness.
The programme has attracted 100 participants, comprising personnel from the Abia State Vigilante Services, Abia State Community Policing and Homeland Watch, all operating under the supervision of the Homeland Commander.
The NSCDC State Commandant was accompanied by senior officers of the Corps during the official flag-off ceremony.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and contributing to the maintenance of a safe, peaceful and crime-free society in Abia State.
