FIC REPORT (ANAMBRA STATE) – Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities (FG-ASUU) agreement for staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), effective January 2027.
The approval was formally communicated to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Peter Onwualu.
Disclosing the development in a press release, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, said Governor Soludo who is also the Visitor to the university, said the decision aligns with his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare in Anambra State.
Reacting to the development, Omenugha, on behalf of the university management, Senate, staff and students, expressed gratitude to the governor, describing him as a dependable leader who keeps his promises.
She noted that the approval followed the governor’s earlier assurances on the implementation of the agreement.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the leadership and members of the university’s labour union for their understanding and responsible engagement with the university management and Governing Council.
According to her, the constructive approach adopted by the unions helped secure an amicable and productive resolution without resorting to industrial action that could disrupt academic activities.
Omenugha assured the Anambra State Government that the university community would reciprocate the gesture by intensifying efforts to position COOU as a globally recognised centre of academic excellence.
