AWKA – (FIC Awka Report) – Following the conclusion of the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly Elections in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari the winner, many residents of Awka in Anambra State have been expressing their opinions on what the President should do to improve the lives of Nigerians.
In a tete-a-tete with the Chairman of the Awka South Welders Association, who is Chimezie Okafor recently, he called on the President to do something so that there will be improvement in the security of lives and properties of Nigerians. He also called for improvement in the power sector which he noted will help people like him to improve the fortunes of their families.
Also a cement dealer at the Government House Market in Awka, Nkechinyere Chijioke wants the President – elect to do something about the reduction in food prizes and cloths and provide adequate security for the entire citizens of Nigeria. Another speaker, the Chairman of the Government House Commercial Bus Drivers Association, Theophilous Attah said that the President should focus mainly on the protection of lives and properties and youth employment.
On her part a food seller, Nkechi Ogazielum wants the president to make sure that the prize of food stuff goes down so that the poor masses can feed. In the same vein, a civil servant, Leonard Ugwu has opined that he President should first of all take care of workers welfare by approving the immediate payment of the new minimum wage. He also desires the President to create more jobs for the teeming youths.
Onyebuchi Okafor, an unemployed graduate has joined the team to call on the President to come up with more social intervention programmes like the N-Power programme because according to him, “it is better to have something you look up to at the end of the month, no matter how little.”
In decrying the situation of some students in the State, a student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Udo Chinyere is challenging the President to do more by funding the tertiary institutions to reduce the issue of strikes by lecturers. According to her, “this will make it possible for university trainees to graduate at the appropriate time.”
Other respondent on the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari called for improved security of lives and property, eradication of the herdsmen/farmers clashes and creation of more jobs for the teeming youths in Nigeria.
