IPCR Signs MOU with International Peace Commission on Peace Building

ABUJA – (IPCR Report) – The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU with the International Peace Commission (IPC) towards peace promotion, research and capacity building in Nigeria.

The release issued from the Publicity Department of IPCR recently indicates that the IPC is a Non-Governmental Organization with its head-quarters in Missouri, United States of America. Adding, it is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria with the main objective of achieving peaceful co-existence.

In his remarks during the signing ceremony on Tuesday 16th of October, 2019 in Abuja, the Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Bakut T. Bakut (Dr) said that the two organizations agreed to partner with a view to achieving peace building and conflict prevention in the country. Bakut revealed that the agreement centred on conflict prevention, research, sensitization and advocacy, election observation as well as the training of electoral officers.

He further explained that the two organizations also agreed to interface with stakeholders, especially security agencies, traditional leaders and religious leaders on the key strategies that would improve peaceful co-existence. He enthused that the collaboration will go a long way in impacting peace in the country, just as it will help in working together to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.

“The MOU would also facilitate opportunity for the two organizations to re-orientate, reintegrate and rehabilitate victims of conflict in conflict areas in Nigeria, amongst others,” Bakut emphasized.

Speaking at the occasion, the Head of Mission in the National Peace Commission, Obiora Tony Odumah (Amb) appreciated the Director – General of IPCR, Bakut T. Bakut (Dr) for his commitment and determination towards achieving peace and tranquillity in Nigeria. He also assured that the International Peace Commission would work within the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding, adding, they are going to work in line with the objective of the MoU.
