Abia State Police Command has paraded some notorious armed robbery gangs that have been terrorising the state capital, Umuahia with series of persistent car snatching ,armed robberies and trailing of Bank customers to and fro banks.
The gangs which include the killers of the couple along Secretariat Road, Umuahia as well as the robbery gang that snatched money cashed from a commercial bank from a bank customer, Okechukwu Basil from Obowo ,Imo State after shooting him to death around the Post Office, Aba Road among others.
Parading the men, the Commissioner for Police, Mr Etim Eme Okon said that the five suspects, Chukwuebuka Okoro , Ogbonna Ifeanyichukwu , Justice Enyinna Asiegbu 25years , Promise Sunday Obilor” Alias Esere 26years and Emezue Kingsley 20years” Alias ” Pakins were members of the eliminated notorious armed robber, Sampson Iheukwumere Nwokocha popularly called “grave” who was killed last December and they appeared to have regrouped after some months of respite for the residents of Umuahia from robbery incidents .
Mr Okon said that the paraded suspects have made the World Bank their safe haven due to numerous escape routes which facilitated their escapes from arrest many times.
C.P Etim Eme Okoh said that on January 25, 2020 , the gangs operating on a tricycle snatched a Sienna car at Health Centre Road, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, used the car to rob a couple, Mr/Mrs Darlington Chinyere Uzoma of their proceeds for the day’s sales and later shot them dead in front of their children along Secretariat road, Umuahia.
The Commissioner reiterated that the criminal activities became worrisome as requests for credible information on the gang never came on board but the series of their nefarious activities and the blood of the innocent couples shot to death caught up with them when intercepted by gallant patrol team.
He said that the suspects went ahead to rob one Uwaeme Chinedu of his personal effects in a bag along Bende road, Umuahia and following a tip off, men of Central Police Station, Umuahia and SARS Team on Operation Puff Adder intercepted the tricycle conveying two of the hoodlums and upon interrogation and confession led to the arrest of other Members of the gang.
Mr Okon appealed to the general public to always feel free to come up with vital information that could assist the Police in tracking down criminals assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Other arrests recorded recently by the Command include the arrest of Chigozie Paul 30years and Godwin Ejike 31years which led to the rescue of kidnapped Martins Ojeke, Obinna Philips of Umeme after Glass Force in Aba North Local Govt.Area at Amuzu Umuonyengwa in Obingwa LGA
SARS Operatives in Umuahia arrested Chigaemezu Nwaigwe along Bank Road, Umuahia with Charms known as Do As I Say ” that he used to rob one Onyinyechi Vincent of #150,000 .
C.P Okon also disclosed that Ebuka Kamalu, Uchechukwu Okoronkwo and Alex Douglas Agbarakwe were arrested for kidnapping of one Obi Anthony of 22 Umuojima Road, Aba, robbed of his phone and #15,000 cash and forcefully initiating him into their Vikings secret Cult’s. SARS Operatives traced them to an uncompleted building where their victim was rescued with his eyes tied with black cloth after being robbed.
Continuing,he added that SARS Operatives following a distress call of robbery operation around Okigwe park, Umuahia arrested five suspects Micheal Ukanwa, Henry John, Charles Onwubiko, Goodness Okoronkwo and a female, Sonia John as well as another Gun Runner/ Hard Drug Dealer , Lucky Adindu of 44 Adindu Street Aba with single barrel pistol, five cartridges and a bag containing some wraps of weeds suspected to be Marijuana.The suspects confessed to all their crimes.
He reassured the public of intensified efforts to trace fleeing suspects of the gang towards their arrest and optimistic that useful statements of those already in police net would hasten court charges.
The C.P further assured residents of Aba, Umuahia and other areas of the state of the Command’s preparedness to combat all forms of robbery incidents in the state to enable the residents sleep with their two eyes close.
In an interview, one of the suspects, Kingsley Emezue confessed to have been involved in series of robbery cases in Umuahia and pleaded for forgiveness stating it was bad friends that lured him into the evil acts.
Items recovered from the suspects include two pump action guns, two
locally made short guns, three live cartridges, a Sienna car, one
machete, and a bag containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Since early January 2020, residents of Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State started been apprehensive and helpless as armed robbers terrorized, killed and robbed the city dwellers of their belongings. Their dirty operations spread to some routes linking other nearby cities of the State,
The nightmares are over as they were all executed today after they were arrested by the Nigeria Police, Abia State Command, hence they would never have the opportunity again to do their evil and heinous trade.
