ABUJA, NIGERIA -The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), under The Presidency, has officially announced Abdulhamid Umar, National Project Coordinator for the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, as a recipient of the “Distinguished Public Service Award in Development Project Leadership.”

The award recognizes outstanding performance and impact in public service, following a merit-based assessment process that included stakeholder nominations and an independent review of performance indicators. Umar emerged from a highly competitive pool of public servants nationwide, marking him as a standout leader in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable development.

A Testament to Environmental Stewardship
This nomination is a true reflection and testament of Umar’s dedication and commitment to the success of the ACReSAL project and environmental stewardship in Nigeria. Under his coordination, the project has made significant strides in bolstering agro-climatic resilience and restoring degraded landscapes, bridging the gap between policy and impactful community-level intervention.

The Ceremony
The honor will be conferred on Monday, June 23, 2026, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Garki, Abuja. The award will be presented during the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series and Awards 2026, as part of activities to mark the United Nations Public Service Day, a global platform dedicated to celebrating excellence and impact in public service.

The program will feature a high-level lecture session in the morning, followed by a prestigious awards dinner in the evening.
