Chief Timipre Sylva

The Honorable Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva has described as transformational, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project.

Sylva made the remark at the flag off ceremony of the project in Rogachikun, Kaduna State on Tuesday, 30th June, 2020

The Minister remarked that the AKK project is capable of fast-tracking Nigeria’s industrial development. He opined: “The AKK is a development corridor, a backbone that has been created from the South to the North. It will take gas from the South to the very end of the North, and hopefully, when we start production in the North, it will also take the gas produced in the North to the rest of the country”.

Speaking further, Sylva hinted that when completed, the AKK project is expected to birth more investments around the gas value chain. Consequently, investments in fertilizer projects, petrochemical, power-plants among others will spring up. Added to these is the plan to establish two additional power-plants to be situated in Abuja and Kaduna.

The AKK project involves the linkage and integration of the North with the Niger Delta region through gas pipelines. The project is expected to inject 2.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day into the domestic market.

The AKK gas project covers 614KM, and is expected to be completed in 24 months.
