Auditor-General For The Federation Presents 2020 Audited Accounts Report On African Union Commision And Its Organs To AU Board Of External Auditors

The Auditor-General for the Federation and Chairperson of the African Union Board of External Auditors, Mr. Adolphus Aghughu, presided over the virtual meeting of the African Union Board of External Auditors that held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 to review and sign off on the Audit Reports of the African Union Commission and its Organs for the 2020 Financial Year.

In his welcome address, the Auditor-General for the Federation declared that the African People deserve so much from the African Union and in order to ensure that the Union succeeds, there must be public probity and Accountability in its operations which will enable the Union reach her potentials and by extension achieve the aspirations of the founding fathers.

He recognized the efforts of the Audit Teams that carried out the Audit of the 2020 Financial Statements of the African Union Commission (AUC) and Six (6) Organs of the African Union (AU) namely:

1. African Union Advisory Board Corruption (AU ABC)
2. African Court Human and People’s Right (AfCHPR)
3. New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD)
4. African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)
5. Pan-African Parliament (PAP)
6. African Commission Human and People’s Right (ACHPR)

Thereafter, the Eleven Member Board, consisting of Auditors-General from 11 Countries carried out a review of the Reports presented by the Chairperson, Audit Operations Committee. The Reports were unanimously adopted while the Board Members went on with the signing ceremony of the 2020 Audit Reports.

The Deputy Chairperson (DCP) of the African Union Commission, H.E. Monique Nsanzabaganwa came on a courtesy call to the meeting and the Chairperson of the Board welcomed her and informed her of the need to ensure Audit recommendations are properly implemented. The DCP commended the efforts of the Audit Team Membersand expressed her sincere gratitude to the Board on the completion of the work despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis.

Members of the Board appreciated the Chairperson for providing the needed leadership that led to the success of the 2020 Audit Cycle and extended their regards to the Secretariat for providing the needed logistics for the auditors.

In his closing remarks, the Auditor-General for the Federation appreciated the BoEA Secretariat led by Mr. DinberuMulugeta and the Administrative Secretary, Ms. TigistKassaneh for providing adequate logistics for the audit exercise.

He also appreciated his colleagues, Members of the Board, for taking time to attend the programme. He noted that the success recorded was due to the efforts of the Audit Operations Committee members whose sacrifices have culminated into the final phase of work.

In a pledge of allegiance, he emphasized the element of efficiency in service delivery.
