AWADEC 2023: Abia Government pledges strong support to enhance Women’s Well-being

The Governor Dr. Alex Otti has assured Abia Women of the present administration’s support and dedication to enhancing the development and welfare of women in the state.

Governor Otti gave the assurance, during the flag-off of the 2023 Abia Women August Delegate Conference (AWADEC) held at the Ochendo International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

He highlighted the influential role Women play in the society and emphasized his government’s proactive efforts to bring about positive changes for the advancement of women in the State.

The Governor acknowledged that their support was pivotal to his becoming Governor. He affirmed that he has begun to reciprocate the gesture by granting women in the state significant appointments noting that vital sectors such as agriculture, education, and healthcare are now being managed by women at the helm of affairs.

Governor Otti extended his congratulations to the Women on the occasion of the 2023 Women August Delegates’ Conference,also expressed gratitude to the women across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state for their unwavering support during the previous election.

In his speech, the Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Darlington Nwokocha thanked the Wife of the Governor for organizing this year’s Women’s August meeting and expressed the hope that important decisions that will impact positively on Women will be arrived at.

He described women as a positive force in the society and assured them that things are changing for the better in Abia State under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti.

Senator Nwokocha pledged collaborative efforts between Members of the National Assembly and the Governor to achieve their shared objectives for the betterment of the larger society.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, revealed that the Theme for this year’s event is “Abia Women: Dare to Dream.”

Mrs. Felix noted that the August Delegates’ Conference is evolving into a movement that advocates for women’s welfare and active involvement in governance.

She emphasized the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment, response to gender-based violence, and the untapped potential within every individual.

The 2023 Abia Women August Delegate Conference (AWADEC) that featured Lectures, Empowerment, Cultural displays was attended by Women across the State.
