As part of efforts to build a competitive, quality-driven industrial economy, the Federal Government has officially launched the Digital Standards Platform (DSP) a gateway that provides verified access to applicable Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) for the procurement of indigenous goods, works and services.
Speaking at the launch, the Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, described the DSP as a joint vision of the Bureau of Public Procurement and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). He noted that the platform is designed to integrate Nigerian Industrial Standards directly into the public procurement ecosystem in alignment with the Nigeria First Policy.
According to Dr. Adedokun, the Nigeria First Policy, conceived by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, prioritises goods and services that are made in Nigeria, built in Nigeria, and delivered by Nigerians.
“Public procurement is a powerful instrument of economic policy. Every naira spent is a decision about the economy we want to build. The DSP ensures that those decisions are anchored on quality, standards and patriotism,” he said.
Dr. Adedokun announced that in the coming months, the NIS will be fully integrated into the BPP’s e-Marketplace and the dedicated portal for Made-in-Nigeria goods and services. This will enable procuring entities, contractors, consultants and suppliers to identify, compare, benchmark prices and procure verified, standards-compliant local products and services with confidence.
He further stated that with the launch of the DSP, the NIS Attestation Certificate obtained through the platform becomes a mandatory bid document and evaluation requirement for all Federal Government procurement involving goods, works and services with applicable NIS.
“The platform provides an objective basis for verification, ensures fairness, and guarantees that only products and services that meet our national standards enter public contracts and eventually public space,” he added.
The BPP DG charged all Procuring Entities, Contractors and Suppliers to make the DSP their first reference point, verify compliance and insist on quality. He pledged that the Bureau will fully embed the platform into the procurement ecosystem, guide MDAs on its use, and work jointly with SON for continuous improvement.
In his keynote address, the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, said the launch represents more than a technology solution.
“It is the opening of a new era — moving standards from the table to the screen, and from the screen into the daily lives of every Nigerian. The platform enables ease of doing business and advances the digital government vision,” he said.
Senator Enoh described standards as “the silent architect of prosperity” and “the language of trust.” He urged all stakeholders to make the platform a bridge and not a silo by interoperating with it and sharing data, so that Nigerian entrepreneurs can experience government as one partner.
The Director-General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, FCA, expressed appreciation to all project partners. He stated that the DSP provides digital, searchable and verified access to Nigerian Industrial Standards, compliance tools, conformity assessment services and standards-related resources “without the barriers of distance, queues or paperwork.”

The launch signals the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that public expenditure delivers quality, creates jobs and builds Nigerian industry.
