BPP, ICPC Commend Delta State On Transparency And Accountability

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have commended the Delta State Government for its openness and commitment to transparent governance.

The commendation was made on Wednesday in Asaba during a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwoi who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D. The BPP Director-General Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, speaking on behalf of both agencies, described Delta State as a trailblazer in sub-national accountability for voluntarily subjecting its processes to external peer review by the ICPC.

“Delta State has opened its doors for the ICPC to conduct peer reviews. This shows confidence in its governance structures and alignment with global best practices in public accountability,” Dr. Adedokun said.

He noted that effective resource management at the state level eases pressure on the federal government, enabling greater focus on national priorities such as defence and security. He added that the visit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for BPP to strengthen collaboration with all 36 states and local governments to improve procurement, budget implementation, and project delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dr. Adedokun affirmed BPP’s commitment to continuous engagement with sub-national governments to share best practices and address challenges in capital project implementation.

Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Governor, reiterated Delta State’s commitment to value for money and quality project execution. He assured that the state would partner with BPP and ICPC to strengthen governance and improve resource utilization.

“We do not tolerate shabby jobs here. We believe the two-day engagement will further strengthen our systems,” Onyeme said.
