The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to promoting initiatives capable of advancing its mandate of deepening South-South Cooperation among countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) regions.
The Director-General stated this on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the NTAC Complex in Abuja, when he received a delegation from the Environmental Resource Innovation and Development Network (ERIDN), a civil society organisation based in Abuja.
Buba assured the delegation of NTAC’s readiness to collaborate with the organisation on areas of mutual interest, particularly initiatives aimed at protecting the marine environment, promoting sustainable development and harnessing environmental resources for economic growth.
He informed the delegation of NTAC’s new initiative to facilitate the deployment of Nigeria’s abundant skilled competencies abroad for a fee, expressing the hope that the first agreement, being concluded with Jamaica, would be consummated in the coming days.
According to him, the agreement with Jamaica is expected to open up greater opportunities for regular and structured migration for Nigerian youths seeking to deploy their skills abroad, while also creating mutual benefits for the participants and Nigeria.
The Director-General said NTAC remained open to partnerships with relevant stakeholders whose programmes and interventions are consistent with the objectives of the Technical Aid Corps Scheme and Nigeria’s broader commitment to South-South Cooperation.
He noted that, through the deployment of Nigerian professionals and experts under the Technical Aid Corps Scheme, Nigeria had continued to contribute significantly to human capacity development and sustainable development in countries where the Scheme operates.
Buba expressed the Agency’s willingness to explore areas where the expertise and initiatives of civil society organisations could complement NTAC’s efforts, particularly in sectors with the potential to deliver sustainable benefits to communities and participating countries.
The delegation, led by the Executive Director of ERIDN, Dr. Amenya Kartay, was at the NTAC Complex to acknowledge the impact of the Agency’s programmes and activities, while also exploring opportunities for greater collaboration in advancing the ideals of South-South Cooperation.
Dr. Kartay said the organisation was particularly interested in identifying practical areas of partnership through which environmental protection, marine resource management and sustainable economic development could be promoted in countries and regions where the Technical Aid Corps Scheme operates.
He further expressed the organisation’s readiness to work with NTAC and other relevant stakeholders, including the UNDP Office in Nigeria, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and other relevant organisations, to develop initiatives capable of promoting environmental sustainability while creating opportunities for economic empowerment and growth.
Also on the delegation were the Director of Finance and Administration, Dr. Charity Onene, and the Programmes and ICT Manager, Mr. Tony Melvin.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to explore areas of mutual interest and possible collaboration in support of sustainable development and the strengthening of Nigeria’s role in South-South Cooperation.
