FIC Report (Abia State) – The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says the best way to celebrate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is for the Country’s Leadership at various levels.
Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this during the Inter Denominational Church Service marking the celebration of 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral further said it behoves on Parents and Stakeholders to do their best to minimize the level of criminality in the Society by assisting Government address the menace of hard drug intake currently on the increase among Youths.
The Governor represented by his Deputy ,Sir Ude Oko Chukwu described the Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a Special event to remember Men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives to maintain and protect the territorial integrity of the nation at various battle fields as well as thank God for seeing their Men still in service through perilous and critical times across the country.
He called for sustained prayers for God’s sustenance on them and stressed the need to cater for the upbringing and upkeep of families of the nation’s fallen heroes as well as continued prayers for their families, promising that the present administration will continue to sustain it’s welfare packages to Members of the Nigerian Legion in the state.
In his Sermon, titled “Lord Give Us Men of Courage like David”, The Archbishop of Methodist church Nigeria, Umuahia Diocese, The Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Opoko pointed out that God blessed the country in it’s diversity so that the nation can be a great and formidable nation and appealed that the county’s leaders should do more to assuage the pains loved ones are experiencing following the death of their breadwinners, that sacrificed their lives in defence of the country’s unity as well as ensuring security of lives and property.
The Most Rev. Dr. Opoko used the service to reassure all that Nigeria will survive all it’s enemies and monstrous Goliath such as kidnapping, Bandits, Insurgents, Armed Robbery and other forms of criminalities and come out stronger and restored as God will provide a David that will emerge to surmount all the strongholds confronting the nation to ensure a better place for present and future generation.
In their goodwill messages, the Chief of Staff, Col. S. Agbai representing the Commander, 14 Brigade, Ohafia Brigadier General M. B. Wabili and the Chairman, Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (RTD) appreciated the state Govt and the church for their prayers and support to the Armed Forces in reducing the myriad of security challenges they are facing across the country and called for a societal approach to the solution of criminalities in the Society.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Deaconess Rose Uranta in her remarks,thanked the State Governor for his benevolence and support towards the success of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day and every one for honoring and appreciating the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes.
High points of the service were the presentation of gifts to the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, the SSG, Mr. Chris Ezem and the Most Rev Dr. Rapheal Opoko while an award for outstanding Constituency Service was presented by the Nigerian Legion to the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Chief Ginger Onwusibe and Sir. Gregory Ibe as well as intercessory prayers for Nigerian Leaders, the Nigerian Armed Forces and for families of the country’s fallen heroes.
The SSG, Sir. Chris Ezem, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Don Ubani, the State HOS, Sir Onyi Wamah, Body of Permanent Secretaries, the DG BCA, Sir Anyaso Anyaso represented by the Director, Training and Research, Sir Chris Esinwa, Service Commanders, Men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and Nigeria Legion attended the service.
